The Contact Lens Process

The Eye Exam

The first step towards finding contact lenses starts when you book your eye exam. We use advanced technology, like corneal topography, to ensure we fit the right lens during your exam. We focus on making sure your contacts provide clear, crisp vision while also being as comfortable as possible.

While most people can wear contact lenses, others may find them difficult to wear if they have dry eyes, live in a dry environment, or experience regular allergies or eye infections.

Once we confirm your eyes can wear contact lenses safely, we’ll then start the fitting process. Using the information from your eye exam, like your eye measurements and prescription, we fit your contacts so that they provide you with the clearest vision possible.

The fitting session also includes in-depth training on properly taking care of and managing your contact lenses safely.

After the fitting, we’ll have you try your contacts for about a week and invite you back to our office for another exam.

Please let us know of any issues you may have while wearing your contact lenses. If you start noticing redness, irritation, or discomfort, please remove your contacts and reach out to us as soon as possible.

What Might Prevent You From Wearing Contact Lenses?

Some common factors that affect your ability to wear contacts include:

  • Dry eyes
  • Frequent eye infections
  • Eye diseases and conditions
  • Allergies
  • Living or working in dry, dusty, or dirty environments

Contact Lens Types

Soft contact lenses are made of soft plastic polymers designed to provide comfort and flexibility. These lenses are a great choice for those with active lifestyles, especially if you play sports like football or basketball.

We offer a range of different soft contact lenses, including those that address nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Rigid gas-permeable lenses are made of harder plastic materials when compared to soft contacts. These contact lenses are a great option if you have to correct more complex visual issues and offer excellent durability and maintenance.

Multifocal contacts are great for correcting refractive errors at multiple distances. Multifocal contacts have multiple prescriptions built into them and can offer clear vision with all the comfort a soft contact lens provides.

Multifocal contact lenses, like MiSight 1 day contacts from CooperVision, can also help manage myopia progression, keeping your distance vision clearer for longer.

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) contact lenses are specially designed to help manage myopia progression. Ortho-K lenses are worn while you sleep as they gently reshape your cornea to provide you with clear vision throughout the day without using glasses or contact lenses.

To get the most benefit from your Ortho-K lenses, you’ll need to wear them every night.

Scleral lenses are larger than traditional contact lenses and are designed to vault over the cornea and rest on the sclera (whites) of your eyes. They allow for more comfortable contact lens wear for those with irregular corneas or keratoconus.

Toric lenses are uniquely designed to address astigmatism, a refractive error that can reduce the quality of your near and distance vision.

Hybrid lenses are made of 2 different materials: an RGP lens in the center to provide crisp vision and a soft hydrogel skirt for comfort.
